Description
Class Experience
Students will: -make predictions -listen to a story read aloud -identify characters -retell the events of a story in sequential order (i.e. beginning, middle, end) -describe characters' actions -describe the setting (i.e. places and time of day) -discuss the theme a sense of belonging with other learners -draw a picture and/or write a summary about what they read
All of our teachers hold bachelors degrees and received 3 hours of professional development to address social-emotional learning topics such as a sense of belonging by a Behavior Specialist and Special Education Advocate and Consultant with over 10 years experience for each specialist.
We encourage our students to independently read with an older family member or caregiver for at least 10 minutes every day.

Learners' progress will be assessed by them sharing their drawn/written summaries of what they read.

The book we're reading discusses the topic of a sense of belonging. All our teachers are trained to discuss the idea of making all community members feel safe to foster a sense of belonging.
