Description

Class Experience

Your learner will learn how to retell the events of a story (i.e. beginning, middle, and end), identify characters, describe characters' actions, describe the setting (i.e. places and time of day), make predictions, and discuss a the social-emotional theme of being socially aware.

Our teachers are engaging, supportive, and flexible for all kinds of learners. Our teachers implement a whole-child approach to teaching by connecting movement and social-emotional learning into every lesson....

This class is taught in English.

Students will:

-make predictions
-listen to a story read aloud
-identify characters
-retell the events of a story in sequential order (i.e. beginning, middle, end)
-describe characters' actions
-describe the setting (i.e. places and time of day)
-discuss the theme of social awareness with other learners
-draw a picture and/or write a summary about what they read

All of our teachers hold bachelors degrees and received 3 hours of professional development to address social-emotional learning topics by a Behavior Specialist and Special Education Advocate and Consultant with over 10 years experience for each specialist.

We encourage our students to independently read with an older family member or caregiver for at least 10 minutes every day.

Learners' progress will be assessed by them sharing their drawn/written summaries of what they read.

1 hour 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

The book we're reading discusses the topic of being socially aware. All our teachers are trained to discuss the idea of being socially aware about different people's experiences within our communities.
