Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
In this class we will be reading wonderful storybooks and creating art inspired by the story!

First, we will read the story aloud as a class while we pause to discuss it along the way for reading comprehension, and predictions. What do you think will happen next? Have you ever felt like that? What would you do? etc. After we read the book, we will dive into our art project inspired by the illustrations and characters in the book. At the end of class your artist will have the opportunity to be on SPOTLIGHT to show off their work or art with the class, only if they want to of course! I encourage the kids to tell their classmates what they like about their work of art! These compliments on their hard work creates a positive social connection that is needed more than ever!

>>>In my classes I love to dedicate the first few minutes to visiting as a class. I like how this sets the tone for our time together, helping those that might be a little nervous or new to virtual learning. It helps create that supportive and welcoming space to create.

I can not wait to read some really great books and see what each artist creates!

Parental Guidance
-Some lessons will require cutting. I will let you know ahead of time if the project we will be doing requires cutting so that you can be around for some help if needed.
Supply List
These are the supplies we will be using most of the time, it varies week to week depending on the project. If there is a special supply needed for the upcoming project, you will be notified in advance so that you have plenty of time to get what you need.

-Pencil & eraser
-Watercolor paper (I use 9 x 12 and 11 x 15, Canson XL brand is great and cheaper!) I use watercolor paper most. It holds up to acrylic paint, watercolor, mixed media, and glue. Plus it's easier to store in an art folder. They can use an art journal too! Keep it all in one place!
***Optional (some artists' like to create all their projects in a Watercolor Journal (spiral) this works too!
-Acrylic Paint (assorted colors)
-Paint brushes in a variety of sizes (round and flat)
-Watercolors
-Oil Pastels (these will be used often, they are bold and creamy)
-Black Fine Tip Sharpie (waterproof marker)
- Washable Markers (Like Crayola Ultra Clean)
-White Glue / Glue Sticks
-Scissors

Sometimes the class will require a handout which I will send to you a week in advance and it will be posted here in the classroom. If the project needs a special supply, I will also let you know in advance.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Kristi! I am a homeschool teacher and an art teacher in Texas! I have 2 children that are in 11th & 7th grade this next year! I absolutely love being involved in my kids education!

I am the owner of Wolf Circus Art Studio and Evolve Volleyball Club. I teach art classes for Pre-K to 6th grade, host art parties, teach macrame, and make pottery. I have been teaching art lessons for over 10 years and I love connecting with children through art! I have experience teaching lessons in a private art studio setting as well as summer camps and online.

I also am the Art & Crafts Director for a non-profit called Salute the Kids. Salute the Kids is a charity that supports military children and families through camping adventures. I create and teach all of the arts and crafts projects and host a family art night at camp. Working with military children is such a gift.

I am so excited to be here on Outschool with the opportunity to teach, connect, and create some really cool art with your artist! I most certainly know I will learn and be inspired by them as well!

When I am not teaching you can find me hanging out with my family, making pottery, playing volleyball, taking care of my cacti, or trying to talk my husband into rescuing another Chihuahua. You can never have too many Chihuahuas ;) I have 5 now!

Hope to see you in class!!
Mrs. Kristi
