Do you have an incoming preschooler or kindergartener? Is this their first experience with online learning? Then you are in the right spot! :-) This class is designed as two things: a social club for the students to get to know other kids their age, and to practice what it's like being in an online meeting with a teacher and peers. Being in a show and tell class can be a wonderful first experience for little ones. It's a great way to learn about raising our hands to speak, waiting our turn, "turning on our listening ears" to be an active listener, describing objects or sequences to other kids, plus it gives them a chance to practice story-telling! In this 10 week class, students will choose an item to bring with them to each class to share with others. I will introduce myself at the beginning of each class, then do a "roll call" to introduce the kiddos to being in a classroom. We will start with some ice breakers. A show of hands to see if anyone has any similar interests! Then we will sing our ABC's. The catchy rhythm and repetition of the ABC song makes it easier for children to memorize the order of the letters, which is a crucial step in learning to read. We will go around the room, seeing whose name begins with each letter by sounding it out. We will then start show and tell based on names in alphabetical order. For example: "Does anyone here have an "A" for their first letter? Oh! ALEXANDER'S name says "ahh, ahh- Ahh-lexander... Alexander, would you like to show and tell today, or just learn about your friends?" They DO NOT have to talk if they are feeling shy. I will never put a kid on the spot intentionally. I will gently encourage participation in a way they feel most comfortable. This is a no-pressure class. **If your child does not have a favorite thing to bring to class, they can talk about a favorite memory, introduce a pet, or even draw a picture to share! I will also send out printable coloring pages each week that the students can bring to class if they'd like to share their art skills instead.** We will wrap up each class by letting the kids talk to one another to encourage the development of social skills. We will wave goodbye to our new friends and remind one another to have a great week! If there is a low number of students in the classroom, we may sing songs/talk about things we love to pass the time. I really love chatting with the little ones, so if your student is comfortable staying the whole class length, that is what we will do! :-) You can see my other preschool-friendly classes at https://outschool.com/teachers/Shana-Paré Thank you!
