Students will review colors, shapes, months, days of the week, numbers, and letters. Every week, a critical thinking skill will be taught (you can review a list of skills taught in the Learning Goals section below). Phonics will also be introduced weekly. Story time includes a comprehension check with questions and detective skills to find our letter of the day. With a limited class size, every students will have an opportunity to participate, answer questions, and sing along. This is also an...
Students will enjoy learning through songs and review material that will prepare them for Kindergarten classes. Each student will sharpen foundational skills while learning letter sounds for the letter of the day, practice tracing for both numbers and letters, begin letter sound recognition, and identify shapes and colors. Each week, we will also incorporate a critical thinking skill such as the following: -rhyming words -positional words such as "above, below, in front, behind" -more or less -big or small -long and short -up or down -in or out -hot or cold -matching skills - what's different/the same? -patterns -comprehension skills -following directions
I have been in education for over 20 years and have had the privilege of teaching little ones how to read and write. I also have experience teaching online for the past three years. Here is what some of my parents have to say about my classes: "I'm very glad to meet Miss Lisa. This class is very interesting. Thank you for your patience and correcting my child's pronunciation in time. Look forward to seeing you again." Vivian's mom. 7/3/2020 "The teacher has done a good job." Elsa's mom. 6/16/2020 "The teacher has patience and expansion. Thank you Miss Lisa." Elena's mom. 3/11/2020
There is no homework for this class, however, I provide helpful worksheets each week to download for alphabet, letter, and shape tracing. *Worksheets are made available on the class page by Sunday night.
Throughout the course of this class, we will use the following. Any variation of the following is fine. 1. Worksheets from the class page are used in each class. If printing the worksheets is not possible, a white board or tracing paper is just as helpful. You can downloaded PreK tracing paper for free. 2. A pencil with a preschool/kindergarten grip will also be helpful for correct finger holding. These can be found among school supplies at stores like Target and Walmart. 3. Basic and big crayons 4. Small items like coins or blocks for counting 5. String, play dough or pipe cleaner for letter/number shaping
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Upon request, parents will be given feedback detailing strengths and weaknesses of their students.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
With young students, a parent nearby can help in case a child needs assistance or help staying attentive. Also, please help your student with the mute and unmute functions in zoom. I do mute students while singing but cannot unmute them in the classroom.
No outside sources needed. I will send letter and number tracing pages you can download and print for your student to practice at home.
