In this four week flex class, students will learn about four main story elements: Characters, Setting, Problem & Solution and Sequencing. Every week, I (the teacher) will upload a video with a read aloud. At the beginning of each video, I will explain what our weekly story element is, while modeling examples. Prior to reading the story, I will discuss the different parts of a book (front cover, back cover, spine and title page) We will also take a look at the front cover to create predictions, (on your own). During the read aloud, I will pause and ask probing questions to answer while watching my video in regards to the weekly element. I will then provide a weekly assignment for students to complete and upload to the classroom!

Possible stories read in this class:

The Three Little Pigs retold by: Jill Norris
The Three Bears Rap by: Pam Schiller
Sarah Sidney's Runaway Adventure retold by: Pam Schiller
The Three Billy Goats Gruff retold by: Jill Norris

Students will be able to communicate through discussions, and will be expected to upload their complete assignments weekly. Students will use these uploaded assignments in their discussions.

I'll open a weekly discussion forum for students to share their successes, ask questions, and expect interactions between each other in the process. Students are required to engage in discussion not only with the teacher but with each other as well. After students upload their weekly assignment, they will then be required to write and/or post a video of themselves to describe what they made.

Each week, students will also be required to respond to another student's assignments of the week. During these discussions, students will have the opportunity to discuss, comment, and/or ask questions on each other's drawings. This will promote interaction and engagement among students. I will also upload video tutorials for students to give a better idea of expectations, and model activities on a weekly basis.
Learning Goals
The purpose of this course is to strengthen knowledge of story elements to help develop early literacy skills, which is extremely important in early childhood education.

👩🏼‍🏫My Philosophy:
It is my philosophy that teaching should always be done in an environment that is healthy, educational, and most importantly safe. I believe that students thrive when they feel the most comfortable, and by transforming learning into fun activities, it allows students to gain a better understanding on a topic whether they realize it or not! It gives me such pride at the end of each school year when they can showcase their learning talents to their parents! I am excited to meet new students and provide the same type of love and enthusiasm to help reach their highest potentials!
