Class experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the most fundamental skills taught in Kindergarten and First grade. ELA concepts focus on phonological awareness and phonics, which are crucial for reading fluency and comprehension as students progress throughout grade levels. Additionally, in this class students will learn the most fundamental standards and learning objectives for kindergarten and first grade!

🌟WEEKLY PACING GUIDE:🌟
Mondays: (ELA: English Language Arts/Reading)
We will start with our circle time songs for days of the week or months of the year! Next, we will work on the daily SIGHT WORD using various activities on our class worksheet (involves coloring, tracing, writing, finding sight word!). Students will help me build a C-V-C word (three letter word involving consonant-vowel-consonant, ex. r-u-g../..m-a-t../..s-u-n), Reading days focus on the most important phonological awareness and phonics concepts needed for first graders! After our class worksheet, students will have a chance to share their work with the class (another sharing opportunity)! :)

Tuesdays-(Math and Science/Social Studies)
We will start with our circle time songs for days of the week or months of the year, and calendar time! We will work on counting and cardinality (comparing numbers), simple adding and subtracting 0-20, place value (groups of tens and ones), number sequence, & more! Students will get their Show-and-Tell opportunity after Math! We will finish our class with a bit of science!!

Wednesdays-(ELA: English Language Arts/Reading)
We will start with our circle time songs for days of the week and months of the year! Next, we will work on the daily SIGHT WORD using various activities on our class worksheet (involves coloring, tracing, writing, search/find sight word!). Students learn to recognize a blend or digraph sounds (br-, cr-, cr- st-, ch- st- ph-). We will practice rhyming with given words (an EXTREMELY CRUCIAL fundamental concept for any student entering 1st grade!). Reading days focus on the most important phonological awareness and phonics concepts needed for first graders! After our class worksheet, students will have a chance to share their work with the class (another sharing opportunity)! :)

Thursdays-(Math/Social day)
We will start with our circle time songs for days of the week, months of the year, and calendar time! We will practice measurement, data, geometry, and money! We will finish our class with a bit of show & tell (using the letter of the week!). Lastly, I will read a story to the children! (Read alouds are a crowd favorite!)

💥Frequently asked QUESTIONS:💥

1. Are printouts needed for class?
ANSWER: Our "Reading Days" will have an assigned sight word. For those days worksheets will be provided for students to complete in class with me! You can find these in the classroom, along with other resources! If printing is not available, students can complete worksheets on their iPad or simply use blank paper/crayons to write their sight word.

2. What is posted in the classroom?
ANSWER: Every Sunday night, (at 9:00pm Eastern Standard Time) I will post the Weekly Newsletter, the classroom worksheets, and a PDF with links to optional activities, videos, worksheets, and more! This PDF will also include links to videos about our science topic of the week (birds, tornados, farm animals, etc).

3. Are there any classroom rules or procedures we should know about, beforehand?
ANSWER: Yes! Learners might be muted during some parts of class, to eliminate background noise. This also prevents situations in which all students are calling out at once, making it difficult for learning to take place (with exception of our math & reading lessons participation, which students answer in unison after I ask a question). PLEASE make sure your learner knows how to unmute themselves, since I am unable to unmute them on my end. ALSO, students will be reminded that they need to raise their hand if they have a question. This will help keep the learning environment structured while giving students a fair chance to share if they would like to :)

**Due to the nature of this class & the curriculum, I ask that parents have a chat with their learner regarding sharing off-topic things during the lesson, students have a brief sharing opportunity at the end of class each day, this is the perfect time to share if they lost a tooth! :)
***PS- students can also write in the classroom, send me a message, or record a video & send to me on OS, with things they want to share, since our time is limited in class. I would LOVE this! (and I think they’d love it too!)

4. How do I know my child is ready for this class?
ANSWER: Please read the schedule carefully to see which material is covered each week in this ongoing class. If your child needs those concepts reinforced (or introduced), this class will help solidify that foundation that will be invaluable when your learner enters upper grades!! (believe me!)*********However, if your child is in 1st grade & is above or ON grade level, this class may be too easy for them.

****If your child knows how to read fluently, this class will be too easy for them.****
****If you are looking to enhance your PRESCHOOLER'S learning OR prepare your child for kindergartener or 1st grade, you've come to the right place! Hope to meet your learner soon!

5. Which Common Core Standards are taught on Reading Days?
CCSS.RF.1.3g
"Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words".
CCSS.RF.K.3c
"Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does)".
Hi there! My name is Dr. Collazo! 👋🏼 I teach and develop curriculum for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade! I have a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in Education (EdD) and a Masters in Elementary Education. During my time in the classroom, I taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 4th Grade in one of the largest public school districts in the U.S! Most recently, I worked with English Language Learners and helped differentiate instruction to provide an equal opportunity to learn. I started my online teaching journey in 2020, but spent most of my time developing my now Kindergarten Class! In 2021, I finished developing my kindergarten class on Outschool and spent the next year implementing that curriculum with my students! I especially loved seeing their growth during that year and I look forward to doing that every year! :)
Students will need to bring their printout (which I will update weekly in the "Classroom" section of this class) on our "reading days" (Mondays and Wednesdays). We will complete the worksheet together (in class), please ensure your child brings the worksheet incomplete.

Students will need crayons or colored pencils for their worksheet.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
