US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
This FLEX class is great for pre-k students getting ready to start kindergarten, or as a summer review for any young learner who needs to master identifying letters, letter sounds and letter formation. We will not meet for live sessions, but will instead meet via posts on the classroom discussion board including engaging prerecorded lessons and assignments. Although we will not meet live, your student will be very much engaged in the learning, as I teach as if they were learning in person. This FLEX class will run for a 6 weeks. Following an introduction of the alphabet, one letter will be taught each day, Monday-Thursday, and each Friday will include a review of all letters learned that week. A prerecorded video lesson will be posted daily, and will include various engaging activities that focused on the target letter. The teacher will introduce the letter and guide the learner in making the letter sound using a corresponding movement for the sound. Using a multi-sensory approach to learning helps students learn information in multiple ways and retain information better. The teacher will then lead the learner in sky-writing the letter, and finally printing each letter. Because physical movement is important to a young child's learning, movement will be a part of my lessons. We will work to master each upper and lowercase letter, the letter sound, and proper writing formation of each letter. Weekly Schedule: Monday-Thursday: Introduction of the new letter of the day through singing, movement, sky-writing, and printing each letter. Friday: Review of 4 (5 in the last 2 weeks) letters learned during the week using various review games and activities. Week 1: A, B, C,D Week 2: E ,F G, H Week 3: I, J, K, L Week 4: M, N, O, P Week 5: Q, R, S, T, U Week 6: V, W, X, Y, Z Students will complete assignments/activities, and will be asked to post evidence of the completed assignments each week. I will choose one letter sound and post a video of myself saying the letter sound along with doing the corresponding movement. Each leaner will create a short video of themselves (they can use the "add video" button in the classroom) saying the letter sound and demonstrating the movement. They will also find an object that begins with that sound, and share it with other learners by posting their video. Learners will be encouraged to watch the videos that classmates post, and with a parent's help, make a comment on a fellow learner's video. I will also leave feedback on each video that's posted.
