Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Beth and I am a recently retired elementary teacher. I am passionate about preparing young learners for school subjects such as english, math, science and the arts. I taught for the Halton District School Board in Burlington, Ontario for over 30 years. I had the pleasure of teaching students from junior kindergarten through to grade 5. I specialized in literacy intervention and teaching mental math skills to my students. I love designing and implementing curricula for young learners.
I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo and my Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. After retiring, I started an in-person tutoring business with students ages 5-13. I also teach ESL online to students in other countries.
My classes are designed to provide learning in pre-K and primary curricula. I focus on the basic skills that young learners need to acquire before starting formal schooling. My classes are theme-based, hands-on and so much fun! I teach topics such as colours, numbers, alphabet, reading skills, early science and much more. I incorporate literature, music and active movement to ensure that all types of learners can be successful in my classroom environment. Within this academic framework, I also teach important personal and social skills such as turn-taking, active listening, sharing and being a good friend. My goal with every class is to pass on my love of learning and to help my students become confident risk-takers. My extensive years of teaching in the classroom, my teaching certifications and my experience with online platforms allow me to engage with my students and share my enthusiasm and love for learning.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking and travelling.
I hope to see your student in my classroom very soon!
