US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
In this ongoing 1-on-1 tutoring class, students will learn the foundational skills necessary for successful reading. We will focus on phonemic awareness, letter recognition, phonological awareness, vocabulary development, and sight word recognition. As a licensed K-12 reading specialist with over a decade of experience teaching reading since 2012, I am committed to providing a nurturing and engaging environment where your child can develop essential reading skills. Every class is personalized to meet the unique needs of each child. We will focus on what skills your learner needs to develop and work towards your personal learning goals. Topics Covered: Phonemic Awareness: Rhyming, segmenting, and blending sounds. Letter Recognition: Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters and their corresponding sounds. Phonological Awareness: Syllables, onset-rime, and alliteration. Vocabulary Development: Building a rich vocabulary through conversations, read-alouds, and new word introductions. Print Awareness: Understanding how print works, including book handling and text direction. Listening Comprehension: Engaging with stories through questioning, predicting, and discussing. Reading Comprehension: Understanding the text and able to answer questions about it. Fine Motor Skills: Strengthening hand muscles through writing activities. Sight Word Recognition: Learning common sight words to improve reading fluency. Concepts of Print: Differentiating between letters and words. Recognizing punctuation marks. Reading Motivation: Creating a positive and enjoyable reading environment. My Teaching Philosophy My teaching style is student-centric. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged, active participants in their learning, and feel comfortable with their teacher. My goal is to create fun, interactive, and research-based lessons tailored to the needs of each young learner I have the joy of working with. How I Teach *Listen & Repeat- Brief and focused practice on letters, sounds, words, and concepts *Gamified Learning- Fun and engaging activities that peak student interest as they learn. *Slides- Visual aids to illustrate letters, words, sounds, and ideas. *Discussion- Students are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas during class. *Positivity- We celebrate what students can do and when they learn new skills. Homework Upon request, I can send worksheets, flashcards, videos, and links to helpful resources to help your child continue to practice reading outside of class.
