Class Experience

Welcome to Pre-Algebra! This course is designed to lay a strong foundation in mathematical concepts essential for success in algebra and beyond. Whether you're a homeschooling student aiming to bolster your mathematical skills or a parent seeking a comprehensive pre-algebra curriculum, this course is tailored to meet your needs.

Embark on a mathematical journey and build the groundwork for success in algebra and beyond with this online class designed specifically for homeschoolers.

Course Objectives:

-- Concept Mastery: Through interactive lessons, practice problems, and real-world applications, students will gain a deep understanding of fundamental pre-algebra concepts such as arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, integers, exponents, and basic equations.

-- Problem-Solving Skills: Students will develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities by applying mathematical principles to solve a variety of mathematical problems. Emphasis will be placed on developing logical reasoning and analytical skills.

-- Confidence Building: By providing a supportive online learning environment, this course aims to instill confidence in students' mathematical abilities. Through guided practice and constructive feedback, students will build the confidence necessary to tackle more advanced mathematical concepts.

-- Preparation for Algebra: This course serves as a stepping stone to more advanced mathematical concepts, particularly algebra. Students will develop the skills and knowledge needed to transition seamlessly into algebra courses, setting the stage for future success in mathematics.

Classes will consist of lectures, examples, practice, and exploration. Students will be given an example or exploration activity, work with the instructor to understand problems and solve them independently. We will use various online activities (Delta Math, Google Slides, etc.) to explore many concepts so that students can have a hands-on experience before completing homework assignments. Tests will be done outside of class and will be open notes.

This class will meet twice weekly, involving students interacting with the teacher and completing weekly assignments/assessments throughout the course.

***TEXT: Students will receive printable note pages and homework sheets. It is important they come to class with the printed notes and keep all their papers organized in a 3-ring binder.

I have taught homeschooled students since 2008 and am very accommodating with student needs; parents are welcome to contact me about any issues or concerns.

***NOTE: students should attend the online meeting on a laptop or desktop computer. Mobile devices are not conducive to the online activities included in this course.***

***NOTE: Completing assignments is necessary to succeed in this class. Math builds on itself, and students must practice to retain what they learn. ***

***NOTE: We will use Google Classroom to keep assignments organized***

Master's Degree in Education from Strayer University
I majored in engineering before acquiring my bachelor’s of science in Computer Science (lots of math classes!) and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education. I have 16+ years of teaching many subjects and ages; however, I have taught Pre-Algebra - Algebra 2, and Geometry for high school students for the past 10 years. I love teaching math and creating supplement assignments and activities to further understanding.
