US Grade 8
This class is part of a series of classes meant to provide opportunities for students to review and practice math concepts taught in pre-algebra. This is the third class of the series, and focuses on pre-algebra skills that are typically taught in eighth grade math. Learners should feel comfortable with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, decimals, fractions and integers independently before enrolling in this class. Learners should also bring paper/pencil or something to write with to each class meeting. These activities are not required, but are there for learners to practice in between class meetings if they'd like to. Below is a list of concepts that we will be covering during this course. Day 1: Algebraic Vocabulary and Writing Variable Expressions Day 2: Evaluating Expressions (one-variable, multi-variable, absolute value, radical, and rational) Day 3: Distributive Property, Combining Like Terms, and Equivalent Expressions Day 4: Identifying Solutions to Equations, Writing Equations, and Solving One-Step Equations Day 5: Solving Two-Step Equations Day 6: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides Day 7: Solving Multi-Step Equations Day 8: Writing, Graphing, and Solving One-Step Inequalities Day 9: Graphing and Solving Multi-Step Inequalities, and Inequalities with Variables on Both Sides Please note that this is a multi-day class with a set schedule. Hello! I have been teaching in the public school setting for the past fifteen years, and tutoring privately for the past six years. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade in math, reading, writing mechanics, American History, and beginning Spanish. I especially enjoy working with students in small groups or individually, and have recently developed skills as an online educator due to school closures. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy watching television and movies, and traveling with my family.
