"Pre-Algebra Foundations: Mastering the Basics - Part 1" is an interactive summer course designed for students aged 11-13. This course meets four times a week for two weeks and is tailored to prepare students for their upcoming pre-algebra class in the fall or to reinforce concepts learned in the previous school year. As the first installment of a three-part series, this course focuses on laying a solid foundation in essential pre-algebra topics, including ratios and proportional relationships, operations with fractions, and basic algebraic expressions and equations. Each session of this course is designed to be engaging and interactive, using a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles. Students will participate in hands-on activities, digital learning games, group work, and real-world problem-solving scenarios that make learning pre-algebra concepts fun and relatable. In each session of our Pre-Algebra Foundations series, we embody a teaching philosophy centered on three pivotal actions: Engage, Encourage, and Empower. We strive to engage students with interactive and hands-on mathematical activities that make learning both fun and meaningful, connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications that resonate with their everyday experiences. By fostering a supportive and dynamic classroom environment, we encourage students to express their thoughts, ask questions, and explore new ideas without fear of making mistakes, promoting a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement. Ultimately, our goal is to empower each student by building confidence in their mathematical abilities and equipping them with the tools they need to solve problems creatively and independently. This approach not only enhances their immediate learning outcomes but also lays a solid foundation for future academic success and a lifelong appreciation for the power and beauty of mathematics.
