Understanding how data is compiled, summarized, and presented is essential for all students. This course will cover all aspects of central tendency and is an intro to statistics. Learners will be able to find mean, median, mode, and range when given a data set when either listed or on a graph. Learners will be able to differentiate between all central tendencies and identify when outliers have affected the data. In this Self-Paced course, there is no live instruction. The material will be posted all at once and you can view it at your convenience. The class will include multiple interactive activities (in the Outschool classroom). After the lesson, students will complete practice questions in Jamboard, Google Forms, and Google Slides. There will also be question/answer discussions so that students can share their knowledge to better understand the topic. As students complete and post their work, the teacher will supply feedback within 24-28 hours, so that the student receives timely feedback. During the sessions, learners will also practice solving problems. There is no pre-requisite knowledge required. The course is broken into parts so that students find the material manageable. It will take approximately 1-3 hours to complete each lesson.
Learning Goals
Throughout this course, learners will practice:
- finding central tendency: mean, median, and mode,
- identifying outliers,
- evaluating simple and compound probability.

Central Tendency
This lesson with outline mean, median, and mode.
Lesson 2:
Range and Outliers
This lesson will discuss range and outliers, which are not considered a part of central tendency.
Lesson 3:
Line Plots
Students will learn to graph line plots and find central tendency with that data.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello! My name is Ms. Ann and I have been a teacher for over a decade in the beautiful state of VA. I have taught several grades in both Elementary and Middle School. I love to teach. I think the best part of teaching is sharing my knowledge in a variety of subjects and helping students make connections to previous experiences or existing background knowledge.
I am a certified teacher in all core subjects: math, history, science, and language arts (grades K-8 and gifted education). I believe that successful teaching includes building relationships, interest, and engagement with students. When students are interested in the topic, they are more willing to participate, ask questions, and ultimately master the content.
I hope to see you in class soon!
