In this lesson, students will learn about Ratios and Unit Rates. Definitions will be provided in class for a ratio and rate. At the beginning of class I will explain the difference between a ratio and a rate. I will provide examples identifying using arithmetic and algebra to help solve each ratio and rate. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions to ensure a full understanding. I will provide word problems as well as statements for students to answer (ex: 3:6 in simplest fraction form = 1/2) . After several examples as a class we will complete solving ratios as a fraction in simplest form. I will then proceed by finding each unit of rate and solving in simplest form. By the end of class students will understand the difference between a rate and a ratio as well as having to solve. We will extend in our second class by including word problems and / or charts using the ratio / rate method to solve. Students will have the opportunity to answer and solve questions independently. Hello! My name is Mrs. Danielle. I am so excited to teach your child! I have a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and graduated in the top of my class.
