In this 9-week course we will build pre-algebra skills including least common multiple, prime factorization, greatest common factor, polynomials, volume, military time, measurement, irrational and real numbers, and the square root formula.
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
In this 9 week class students will be introduced to pre-algebra concepts and begin preparing for algebra. Mathematic concepts build upon themselves and it is important that students firmly grasp more basic concepts before moving onto more challenging concepts. As such, students will need a solid understanding of integers, fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, negative numbers, exponents, expanded and exponential notations of place value, roots, solving for the...
Students will be develop mastery of leas common multiple, prime factorization, and greatest common factor. Students will know what a polynomial is and how to add and multiply polynomials. Mastery of adding and subtracting time, military time, and measurement will be achieved. Students will grasp volume and how to find the volume of a cylinder, pyramid, and cone. Finally, students will understand irrational and real numbers and the square root formula.
I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and have tutored math since 1998.
Homework Offered
Game based practice problems reinforcing the material taught each week will be provided. Time may be given during class to start working on these but time outside of class may be required to complete.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
