Description
Class Experience
In this 9 week class students will be introduced to pre-algebra and begin preparing for algebra. Mathematic concepts build upon themselves and it is important that students firmly grasp more basic concepts before moving onto more challenging concepts. As such, students will need a solid understanding of integers, fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I will demonstrate different topics, work through several examples, have the students work through examples...
Students will develop mastery of negative numbers and how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using negative and positive integers. Mastery of exponents, roots, how to solve for an unknown using the additive inverse, and the Pythagorean theorem will also be developed.
I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and have tutored math since 1998.
Game based practice problems reinforcing the material taught each week will be provided. Time may be given during class to start working on these but time outside of class may be required to complete.
Practice problems provided by the instructor Pencils Paper Calculator Number block manipulitive (optional but very helpful)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
