includedClass Experience
US Grade 7
This will be a teacher lead math class; concepts will be presented by the teacher and practiced together as a class. Some lessons will include investigative activities when applicable. All classes will include discussion structured to enhance learning and build community. The topics covered are: Week 1 and 2 - Rational Numbers and Equations: This will include defining rational numbers, operations with fractions (review), introduction to properties of equality and inequality. Week 3 and 4 - Solving Equations: In this unit we will work on solving equations which is the beginning of teaching Logic. This unit includes Properties and operations, the distributive property, Simplifying variable expressions, variables and equations, solving equations using the properties of equality and decimal operations with equations. Week 5 and 6 - Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities: This unit builds off of the last unit with more complex applications. We will be solving two step/multi-step equations, equations with the variable on both sides of the equal sign, and solving simple and complex inequalities. Week 7 and 8 - Factors, Fractions and Exponents: This unit builds off of what we've learned about factors and uses this to understand exponents. We will learn about factors and prime factorization, greatest common factor, equivalent fractions with variables, least common multiple of monomials, rules of exponents, negative exponents exponent of zero and scientific notation. Week 9 and 10: Rational Numbers and Equations: This chapter is a comprehensive review of fractions integrated with variables. We will cover rational numbers, operations with fractions, the multiplicative inverse, and solving equations and inequalities with fractions. Week 11 and 12 - Ratio, Proportion and Probability: These two weeks will be devoted to everything proportional including ratios and rates, writing and solving proportions, cross products, similarity and congruence, measurement and scale, scaled drawings, probability and odds and the multiplication principle.

Parental Guidance
Frequent parent feedback is encouraged. Pre-Algebra is a challenging course for some students and proper differentiation is essential. This depends on feedback from home as some young learners will be reluctant to share their struggles.
Supply List
Students will come to class prepared with: Printed formatted notes (provided) pencil and eraser whiteboard calculator
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
