Pre-Algebra Basics: Solving Equations (Part I)
What's included
1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Solving equations algebraically are critical skills for students to build their algebraic foundation. In this one-time course, students will use the order of operations and substituting values for variables to practice these key skills. I will use a power-point presentation along with lecturing and modeling to deliver instruction. Students will be encouraged to participate and share their answers to the example problems given. Games such as Kahoot and Quizizz will be used to assess mastery of the skills reviewed, as well as to foster friendly competition and team building amongst peers. Students taking this course should be comfortable with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals, however, we will take warm-up time at the beginning of class to do quick reviews for these skills.
Learning Goals
Students will:
* Solve for an unknown variable in a one-step equation such as x+13=47 using Inverse Operations.
*Check/verify the solutions to one-step equations by substitution of the answer into the original equation
* Solve for an unknown variable in a two-step equation such as 5x+12=22 using Inverse Operations.
*Check/verify the solution to the two-step equation by substitution of the answer into the original equation
