Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
In this three times weekly pre-algebra class, we will learn and practice a new middle school math concept each week. This class is typically taken as 7th or 8th (sometimes 6th) grade math.

*I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners as a teacher and a mom, and am happy to work with you/them to ensure that they have an enjoyable class experience.*

My classroom is very inclusive and friendly. I want students to feel welcome and comfortable, and they are encouraged to participate at their comfort level. As long as students are staying on task, they can be as vocal or quiet as they want. If a student prefers not to be called on to answer questions aloud, I will respect that. Students are encouraged to reach out with questions via classroom chat if they don't feel comfortable asking a question in front of the group.

I am always available via email to assist students, check their optional homework, or provide feedback. If a student would like feedback on an assignment, they need to take a picture of it and post it in the classroom or send it via email. I do my best to get back to students within 24 hours.

The class is setup in the following sections:

Weeks 1-3: Exponents, Roots, Scientific Notation
Week 4-12: Prime Factorization, Fractions, GCF, LCM
Weeks 13-15: Negative Numbers
Weeks 16-17: Ratios and Proportions
Weeks 18-24: Coordinate Planes, Graphs, Slope, and Linear Equations
Weeks 25-30: Order of Operations
Weeks 31-36: Probability and Statistics

Students will take a weekly assessment to determine proficiency. We will play review games on Gimkit and Kahoot each week, and I will post links to games they can play at home as informal assessments. Optional homework is posted 1-2 times per week.

Grades are available upon request.

Hello! My name is April Moser, and I am a former 6th grade classroom teacher, specializing in math. I live in Virginia, USA, near Washington, D.C.

In 2006 I earned a Masters Degree in Education, and went on to teach upper elementary school, focusing on math at all levels. Since having my own children, I have moved to online teaching, and have taught over 500 students online in the last few years!

I have always enjoyed math, and I have created a lot of classes that make learning math more exciting for the students. Each of our brains work differently, and that is the foundation on which I build my lessons. In class, if there are three ways to solve a problem, we will try them all! That way, your learner has a much better chance of understanding and grasping the concept.

We play Kahoot and Gimkit games to get the kids excited about reviewing concepts, and I am always available to answer questions when needed.

I look forward to meeting and working with your learner!
