includedClass Experience
US Grade 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Course Description: This class will review the basic operations of arithmetic on integers, fractions and decimals. These operations will be used in dealing with ratio, proportions, percent, simple geometry and algebra. As students master these basic concepts, they will move into basic algebra. Students will be expected to understand basic operations with integers, rational numbers, irrational, and real numbers; the use of variables; properties of numbers and of equality; solving equations and inequalities; problem solving with real world applications. CLASS STRUCTURE I use PowerPoint Notes for every lesson to begin our DISCUSSIONS. As I teach a topic I use GUIDED PRACTICES to have students work on problems with paper/pencil asking them to raise their hand when finished. I then call on various students to CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING. TEACHING METHODOLOGY I use a varied approach to my teaching: ** Flipped Approach - Students will use educational technology to introduce concepts; they are asked to view the SUPPORT VIDEOS prior to meeting for class time. ** Formative Assessments - Students will complete a short EXIT QUIZ for each lesson. **Visual and Hands-on - Students will be asked to make drawings or colored chips as algebra tiles. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE **Practice multiplication and division without paper (“mental math”). **Practice rounding decimals with dollars and coins, or with the prices of objects listed in advertisements. **Discuss positive and negative numbers in terms of credits and debits using a bank account or a bill. **Discuss the volume of objects around your home, like a water bottle, a box, or a container. Unit 1 - Variables, Expressions, and Integers Week 1 - Place Value Week 2 - Wring and Evaluating Expressions Week 3 - Operations with Integers Week 4 - Reasoning, Patterns, Coordinate Grid Week 5 - Review and Test 1 Unit 2 - Solving 1-Step Equations and Inequalities Week 6 - Properties of Numbers Week 7 - Order of Operations Week 8 - Operations of Equations Week 9 - Solving Inequalities by Adding & Subtracting Week 10 - Solving Inequalities by Multiplication & Division Week 11 - Review and Test 2 Unit 3 - Decimals and Equations Week 12 - Rounding and Estimation Week 13 - Mean, Median, Mode and Using Formulas Week 14 - Solving Decimal Equations by Adding and Subtracting Week 15 - Solving Decimal Equations by Multiply Week 16 - Solving Decimal Equations by Dividing Week 17 - Metric Conversions Week 18 - Review and Test 3

External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
Michigan Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Secondary School Administration/Principalship from Grand Valley State University
Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Grand Valley State University
I am offering this class because some students that attempt Algebra 1 have low confidence and need to be better prepared. I have been teaching mathematics for more that twenty years, and I believe that all students can succeed. Come join my class!
