1-2 hours per week. Optional homework will be posted to the Outschool Classroom once a week. I will post the assignments and the answers keys so you can check your work. Although homework will not be sent to me for grading, please feel free to message me on Outschool Messages at any time with questions about the optional homework or any topics we cover in class so that you don’t fall behind. The optional homework will be in the form of a PDF. I will provide you with a link to a shared Google Drive folder where all the homework assignments and answer keys will be uploaded to.Assessment
Checks for understanding will be used throughout a class. I will ask everyone to participate. This is not a graded class but the optional homework is highly recommended to become proficient in the topics learned in class.Class Experience
US Grade 7 - 8
**Please Note: This class is a full year Pre-Algebra class on an ongoing basis. The first few classes will be more of a review as students should know those topics. Rest assured, this class will get more challenging as the curriculum progresses. Please look through the schedule of topics as they show the actual dates of what is being taught before you sign up.** This is a Pre-Algebra ongoing class where students can choose which classes to attend without committing to a full semester. It is geared for students entering 7th grade or 8th grade. It is also be useful for advanced students entering 6th grade and for those who need a refresher of 7th / 8th grade Pre-Algebra math. Depending on where you are, some schools do Pre-Algebra in 7th grade and some will do Pre-Algebra in 8th grade. Students need to have a solid basic math foundation (such as arithmetic, order of operations, fractions) and prior knowledge on the classes they are interested in taking. If you are joining the class after the class has started, please take a look at the schedule below and make sure you are proficient at the topics before the class you will be joining. We will not have time to review any materials covered during previous classes as each class is a different topic. Math is built on steps. If you miss an earlier step, you can stumble in a future topic. You can join at any time as every week will be a separate topic from previous classes. So, you can join this class as a full 7th grade Pre-Algebra math curriculum or you can join during a week we are doing a topic you might need a refresher on and you can unsubscribe at any time. You will be charged weekly and can subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. You just need to unsubscribe by Saturday to not get charged for the following week. The subscription renewals are charged every Sunday for the following week. You can take this class every week or drop in on certain topics. This class is a full year of 7th / 8th Grade Pre-Algebra Math if you start the class from the first day. We will be using a website ‘Classkick’ for our classes. You will not need to sign up for an account. I will provide a link at the beginning of each class. When you click on the link, it will ask you to put in a name. You will only need to put in the students first name so that I can identify their work. Classkick is an interactive site where students can work on their math problems on the screen and at the same time, I (the teacher) will be able to see what they are doing on their end on my own screen. Each class assignment is a PDF that is uploaded into Classkick. We will not be watching any videos or using any reference websites during class. To be Coppa Compliant, the class assignment will only be accessible during our class. Once the class ends, you will no longer have access to the lesson. I will post a PDF of the answers to the problems we do in class in the Outschool Classroom for students who want to review the work. I post the answer keys at the end of each week. Sometimes, we will use Kahoot or Blooket to play games on the topic we are doing in class (if time permits). You will not need to sign up for an account with Kahoot or Blooket. This is not a graded class but I will be providing optional homework after each class for those who want/need extra practice. Optional homework assignments will be posted in the Outschool Classroom once a week. I will post the assignments and the answer keys so you can check your work when you are done with the assignments. Although homework is not sent in for grading, please feel free to message me on Outschool Messages at any time with questions about the optional homework or any topics we cover in class so that you don’t fall behind. The optional homework will be in the form of a PDF. You will need to print it, do the work, and check your answers with the provided answer keys. There are no tests in this class. No grades will be provided. Optional homework is highly recommended for you to master the topics learned in class. All states and countries have their own requirements so please check your requirements to make sure the topics covered in this class is sufficient. All optional homework assignments, homework answer keys, and classwork answer keys will be posted in the Outschool Classroom at the end of the week. I will provide you with a link to a shared Google Drive folder where all the homework assignments and answer keys will be uploaded to. I operate by the classic "I teach, do guided practice, then independent practice" with checks for understanding sprinkled throughout. Asking students to explain their responses or how they arrived at their solutions is one of my go-to's to gauge learning. I welcome students to ask questions or for help during and between classes! I welcome inquires from parents asking to let them know of their child's progress. Classkick will be used in class so students can work out problems on the screen and only I (the teacher) can see their work. There is no account necessary. To sign on, I will provide a link at the beginning of class and you would click on the link and put students first name and you will be able to log in without any account. To be Coppa Compliant, you will only be able to access Classkick lessons during class time. Once class ends, you will no longer be able to access the lesson. I will provide you with a link to a shared Google Drive folder where all the homework assignments and answer keys will be uploaded to.
Sometimes, we will use Kahoot or Blooket to play games on the topic we are doing in class (if time permits). You will not need to sign up for an account with Kahoot or Blooket.
Supply List
Notebook or paper to take notes, pencils and ruler.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Master's Degree in Mathematics from University of Southern California
I am a New York state licensed classroom teacher in secondary math and special education. I taught math at a high school in NYC DOE for 5 years before deciding teach on Outschool. Patience and compassion are my strong suits. I will help you if you ask! Having a child "get" a concept gives me joy. My wife and I homeschool our three daughters.
