Class Experience

Reading comprehension is an important step in becoming an enthusiastic reader. In this interactive, semester long class, students will practice reading comprehension with one book each week. We will read books in the “Fluffy the Classroom Guinea Pig” series by Kate McMullan. Students will love Fluffy, the classroom guinea pig, who is always finding a new and exciting adventure! In this book series, each book is divided into three sections or parts of Fluffy’s adventure. Each week we will practice comprehension before reading by making predictions about the story. During reading, students will practice answering questions about what we have read after each story section. After reading, the class will revisit the predictions made before reading and determine if the class was correct. We will also discuss the student's favorite parts of the story. Students will learn about predictions, main ideas and answer the 5W questions - who, what, where, when, why. In addition to reading the book each week we will play some comprehension games and have fun! Each class will be interactive and engaging! Practicing reading comprehension will be fun with Fluffy the classroom guinea pig!

“If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” - Ignacio Estrada

This quote became my credo when I began homeschooling six years ago. Each child has a unique learning style and it is important to find that style!

Learning should be fun! Students who are engaged will be excited to come to class. Students who are having fun will remember the class and the content. All of my classes are filled with games and interactive activities to help your child learn!

I love learning! I have an MBA, a BS in Marketing and a TESOL Certificate. I have been teaching undergraduate business courses online for more than fifteen years, but found my passion when I began homeschooling and teaching children through a homeschool co-op. I felt inspired to get my TESOL Certification and then began teaching ESL online. I love working with children of all ages and adjust my teaching style to fit my students. Every child can learn and should have fun doing it!

Join me for fun and engaging classes that will have your children wanting to learn more!
