Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego
Hello! My name is Courtney. I received my Masters Degree of Science in Education, Major: Literacy Education (B-6) in 2008 from SUNY Oswego. I currently hold New York State Professional Public School Teacher Certification in Childhood Education 1-6 as well as TESOL certification. My teaching style is more laid-back, with a high focus on humor. I love to laugh, and I love for my students to laugh, be relaxed, and have fun.
I have been teaching professionally since 2008. In 2017, I began to teach primarily online with VIPKid, due to the flexibility, because in addition to teaching, I also am an independent film-maker. I wrote, directed, edited and produced my first feature length film in 2011. In the Fall of 2012, I taught a script writing and film-making class for children ages 10-14. In this class, I helped the students to develop their own ideas into scripts, and assisted them in filming their individual short films. For the past few years, I have focused primarily on filming music videos for local bands.
Although I have a passion for teaching typical elementary school subjects (primarily language arts, with a focus on creative writing), I also have many other passions, including films and film making, popular culture, video games, music, and cats. I love to teach a variety of subjects, and I love to incorporate popular culture into my lessons.
Some of the classes I plan to offer: ESL Classes, Creative Writing Using Popular Culture Characters, Screenwriting Basics, Various Preschool through grade 6 Subjects, Cultural Studies, Popular Culture and Trends of the Decades (1970s, 1980s, 1990s), Sociological Aspects in Popular Films and Television Shows, and Various Animal Subjects (primarily focusing on cats!), among others.
I live in Central New York with my talented musician husband, and our two beautiful cats, R.J. MacReady and Agent Dale Cooper.
