Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
I will teach students how to practice basic addition and subtraction math facts up to 20 using online fact fluency programs. The students will be able to practice using songs, games, and activities. I will help them gain mastery of the basic facts by teaching multiple strategies for mental math addition and subtraction. The more students practice, the more they learn. As they practice their facts, they should increase the amount of problems mastered and decrease the amount of time it takes them to answer. With repeated practice, students should be able to quickly answer correctly the basic math facts. This class focuses on fluency with math facts.
Learning Goals
Students should increase the number of basic math facts learned aiming for high accuracy.

Iowa Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello, my name is Kathleen Bernath Jenkins and I am a recently retired elementary public school teacher in Missouri. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in differentiated instructional methods. Most recently, I have taught fourth-grade students the core academic skills: reading, grammar, writing, math, science, and social studies.
I have a passion for teaching children the skills needed for them to be successful citizens. I believe all children can achieve success at school by differentiating instructional methods, which allows for individual growth and expression. My approach to teaching is to focus on best practices, those proven to be successful across all educational settings: teacher modeling and interaction with students, setting clear objectives at the start of each lesson, encouraging group participation, and debriefing together at the close of a lesson.
Besides my love of teaching, I also have a greenhouse and enjoy growing and propagating plants, especially tropical and rare varieties!
