Class Experience

Uncle Billy has decided that you are big enough to take care of your own goat herd. But you'll have to come and get them. And you don't have a trailer, or a truck -- and you're too young to drive! And that's just the first problem...

After recovering from the joy of inheriting these bouncing, adorable, fluffy eating machines, learners will soon discover that keeping goats is a little more complicated than it looks. Students will use problem-solving skills to work out solutions to real-world farm problems based on actual issues people have had with their goats. They'll solve problems such as transportation, containment, safety, and herd management in order to keep their goats safe and happy.

This course is discussion-based, using PowerPoint style presentation. Rather than a wall of text, this light-hearted course relies heavily on photos, and especially photos of naughty goats! :)

This class does not feature live goats.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Heidi, I have a brother named Peter, we are third generation Swiss-American, and I raise dairy goats in the foothills of a mountain range on Grandfather's farm. You can't even make this stuff up. :)

I am not a veterinarian, but worked for years as a veterinary assistant. Additionally, I have attended several goat births (and narrowly missed a few) on our own farm. My family has a small goat herd with new kids born every year. We have a small business making and selling soap with our extra goat milk.
