LEARNING GOALS. In this course, students will:
• Develop an understanding of the nuances between written/spoken language.
• Overcome fear and anxiety associated with public speaking.
• Develop confidence and self-assurance when speaking in front of an audience.
• Understand the principles and techniques of effective public speaking.
• Learn strategies for preparing and organizing speeches or presentations.
• Enhance verbal and nonverbal communication skills to engage and connect with the audience.
• Practice delivering speeches with clarity, poise, and strong delivery.
• Develop the ability to structure and articulate ideas effectively.
• Improve audience awareness and adaptability to different speaking situations.
• Receive constructive feedback to refine and improve public speaking skills.

Through this course, students will develop transferable skills applicable to various domains, expanding beyond English-related subjects, as effective public speaking is a vital Life Skill with the capacity to be utilized throughout their lives and across different disciplines.

Learner progress in the course "Power Talk: Conquer Your Fear of Public Speaking" is assessed through various methods, including: Speech Assessments: Students will deliver speeches or presentations, which will be evaluated based on factors such as content, delivery, organization, and audience engagement. Participation and Engagement: Active participation in class discussions, group activities, and peer evaluations will be taken into account to gauge the learner's level of involvement and contribution. Skill Development: Progress in specific skills related to public speaking, such as confidence, clarity, body language, and persuasive techniques, will be monitored through observations and feedback from the instructor. Self-Reflection and Growth: Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own progress, identify areas for improvement, and set goals for further development. Self-assessments and reflective assignments may be used to assess this aspect.
Grades Offered
To enhance their learning experience, students are encouraged to have a notebook or lined paper readily available during the course. Additionally, having sticky notes, highlighters, and a writing utensil on hand will facilitate active participation and note-taking. These tools will support learners in organizing their thoughts, marking important information, and engaging with the course materials effectively.
