Students will study chemistry within a Harry Potter Potions course! In class one we will travel to Diagon Alley to learn about Potions/lab equipment, potions safety, and experiment with invisible ink from Weasleys Wizard Wheezes. In class two we will learn about matter by classifying ingredients like dragon's breath, bat wings, and unicorn tears. We will also brew liquid luck. In class three we will learn changes of state by making a bubbling brew. In class four we take a field trip to Madam Puttifoots' Tea shop to learn about the PH scale. We will create a magnetic Slughorn slime, and a disintegrating draught in classes five and six as we study the periodic table. We will study osmosis in class seven by making a swelling potion and its shrinking antidote. We will conclude the class series by making Dragon toothpaste and experimenting with Dementors' breath as we study chemical reactions! I have eight additional classes in Potions Year Two! Flex option is available. Each lesson will include a welcome discussion, lecture, and activity or experiment. INDIVIDUAL SIGN UP REQUIRED. I will be doing a simple demonstration making Felix Felicis/ Liquid Luck at the beginning of class. If you would like to follow along you will need a scoop of vanilla ice cream (Any flavor works), cream soda (or other carbonated beverage), and a wand (straw or spoon). We will also be playing an interactive game. Students are welcome to answer questions on their own. If they would like to compete in the game they will need an additional device, or the ability to have two windows open simultaneously. I look forward to seeing you all in class!

My name is Courtney! I have a Bachelor of Science in Health Science Education from Kent State University. I am also TESOL certified. I have been teaching since 2008. I started teaching exclusively online in the Fall of 2016. I teach science, ESL, Health, and math classes. Many of my classes have a fun theme! I believe students should be comfortable, engaged, and interested while learning.
In my free time, I like to learn, create, and enjoy nature. Some of my hobbies include Oculus Quest, hiking, kayaking, dancing, camping, painting, calligraphy, and music.
I enjoyed reading the Harry Potter and Warriors series and have created classes with similar themes. I am always open to creating new classes with themes that will interest my students!
