Potion Poetry: Be Inspired by William Shakespeare
Students will write their own poems based on Shakespeare's Macbeths Witches using their own ideas for ingredients. They will be inspired to include rhyming couplets and alliteration in the style of the poem.

Intermediate Level
In this one-off class, students will start by working out the anagrams of famous witches or wizards. We will read the famous Macbeth three witches poem together starting, "Double Double, Toil and Trouble, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble." Students will all be able to be interactive and can highlight the ingredients and the methods read in the text. We will discuss the rhythm and how this is created by the use of alliteration and rhyming couplets. If students are keen, they can read it aloud...
Students will develop their language and imagination by describing ingredients and methods. They will use rhyming couplets and alliteration to advance their writing skills.
I have been teaching English in the UK for 22 years. This is a favourite lesson which I have done many times with children ages 10-11. They loved to dress up in their hallowe'en costumes to perform their poems once they'd perfected them.
