Class Experience

This class is all about positive self-talk! Self-talk is often what drives our effort. Therefore, it is imperative that students understand the power of their words, especially towards themselves! We will begin with a discussion about words in general and if they have positive or negative emotions connected to them. This will lead into the things that others say and how it effects us. Then we will take a deep dive into the things that we say to ourselves. While it is normal that we are not positive all of the time, it is important to be able to recognize when our own self-talk may be what is holding us back! We will do a recycling activity in which students will practice recognizing and recycling negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Finally, we will end with a discussion about how self-talk effects our self-esteem and our ability to reach our goals. In my classes, I act as the guide, gently prompting discussion amongst the students to foster an atmosphere they can feel comfortable sharing in. I ask self-reflection questions rather than giving answers and encourage by using a lot of praise and celebration of successful moments in class.

Hello! My name is Lisa Crick. I bring experience and expertise to the classroom with a masters degree in school counseling. I have been an elementary school counselor for over 20 years, working with kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade. I have extensive experience teaching social-emotional and life skills classes and small groups. I believe that all children can learn and that it is my role to maximize upon teachable moments during class. My goal is to walk alongside you as we work together to grow amazing adults who will be leaders; leaders who exhibit responsibility, respect, growth mindset, and integrity. My classes will teach, improve, and refine these essential skills. I am also a busy mom! Our oldest son is a young adult who works with autistic children. Our other sons are in high school. They keep us busy with tennis, wrestling, track, and golf. Additionally, our family is deeply rooted in the 4-H program. Our sons show pigs and are active Junior Leaders. I look forward to working with you and your family!
