In this one-time poetry class, students will read and analyze two upbeat poems by Edgar Allan Poe.
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Students will be introduced to Edgar Allan Poe through a mini-biography and will then read and analyze two of his poems. Both poems will showcase the "lighter" side of Poe. Many people believe he only wrote poems & stories of a dark and macabre nature, but this class will show students the multi-faceted Edgar Allan Poe who really existed. The two poems we will cover are "Eulalie" and "To Helen." We will analyze each poem and also look for and define poetic devices such as alliteration,...
Students will learn: 1. how to analyze poetry. 2. how to identify & define several poetic devices. 3. how to relate a poet's choice of poetic devices to the intent and purpose of the poet.
I am a certified teacher with seven years' public school classroom teaching experience. I've been a homeschooling parent for sixteen years. I've also taught Literature classes for local homeschool co-ops. I have a particular passion for classic and gothic literature, and Poe is one of my favorites.
