I am a former preschool teacher and one of my favorite things to do with young learners is to start confidence-building skills. In this class, we will learn good ways to build confidence and practice reciting positive affirmations. First, I will explain what affirmations are and why we use them. We will talk about what it means to be confident and why it is important. We will then watch a video from Sesame Street about confidence. Then, we will read "I Am...Positive Affirmations for Children" by Ayesha Rodriguez. This book gives a good introduction to affirmations and how to use them. This book will also allow us to briefly discuss what special needs are and how important it is to be accepting of differences. We'll then talk about if we know someone with a special need. After we read the story, we will talk about some of the things we like about ourselves or what we do well. Then we will create our own affirmations to use every day. I would ask that if a parent is nearby, they would write down the affirmations that their learner(s) come up with so that they can keep them for future use. It is my intention that reciting these affirmations will become a part of the learners' daily routines. No previous knowledge is required for this class, however, it is highly encouraged that parents and families keep the conversation of confidence-building going after class as this will be an extremely necessary and useful skill for children as they grow.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Ms. Caisee and I'm so glad to be here! I have an Associate’s Degree in Child Development and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development. I've also worked as an ABA therapist for children with Autism. I have the most experience with with children from 0-7 years old but also have experience with infants and toddlers. Over the course of my time teaching, I have created amazing bonds with parents and students which lasted for years after the students left my classroom. I believe that patience is key when dealing with children but I also believe that children benefit from structure and being aware of consequences. I am fun and loving with children but I am also able to be firm when necessary. I believe children learn best when they have a balance between freedom and structure. This has been a very successful teaching approach for me. My most favorite activities to do as a preschool teacher were art projects, reading stories, and learning about countries and culture. I love helping children learn through play! When I worked with older children, one of my main focuses was to help them build excellent communication skills that would benefit them as they grew. I'm excited to learn with your children and watch them grow!
