In this filmmaking discussion group- Popcorn club, students will learn to analyse different ways of storytelling while enjoying the company of other students that are passionate about movies. Topics covered include; film terminology, narrative structure, critical thinking, styles of filmmaking, cast and crew roles and reviewing a film. Popcorn Club is a facilitated movie review class. The first 10 mins will be used for introductions and establishing a safe space for learning and creating. We will then move on to our feature topic for that week, for example, 'What makes a great director?' Then I will present the title and blub of a film and we will discuss aspects of it. (No films will be viewed during class time, films may be required to be viewed for homework.) As a creative communicator, I am passionate about student-centred learning and exploration through discussion. In this class, students will have space to express their views while gaining confidence and supporting their like-minded peers. This class will be highly interactive using games, media and discussion to engage students and promote retention in learning. No formal subject knowledge is required, bring a passion and curiosity for filmmaking. Here is a break down of our 4-week movie club- Day One- Film talk! Roles of cast and crew. Favourite films, filmmakers. Day Two- Revealing film secrets. What makes a good movie? What makes a good review? Day Three- Bring your popcorn! Film discussion, using correct film terminology. Day Four- Let's hear it! Students present their film review.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As an experienced teacher and artist, I've been extremely blessed to have worked within the creatives art for years.
Everything I am passionate about can be summarised in three words- 'communication and creativity.'
I have a depth of experience across varied roles within the arts including work as a director and an actor, in both theatre and film. I have produced, co-produced, worked as 1st AD and production managed. I have written published works, film projects and poetry. I work as a visual artist in contemporary abstract painting.
This range of experience gives me a clear understanding of the larger vision of any creative project. I am passionate about passing on my knowledge and experience to the next generation.
I have worked with young people in the education system, in outside school hours care, at camps for 'at risk' youth, teaching acting and creative arts classes, teaching English online and working within the Deaf community; I have been using Auslan (Australian Sign Langauge) for 9 years.
I look forward to getting to know my learners.
