Class Experience
In this four class series, students will use historical fiction and non-fiction to discover what happened in Pompeii when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Students will learn about Mt. Vesuvius, its eruption, and the effects on Pompeii. As students learn about Pompeii, they will also analyze what we can learn from historical fiction, define new vocabulary words, and work on their reading comprehension. Class 1: Introduction to Mt. Students will learn about the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and destruction of Pompeii. Students will define new vocabulary words. Students will answer reading comprehension questions. Students will analyze what we can learn from historical fiction.
I have been a middle school reading teacher and have taught these topics for 15 years.
Students will need to read sections of the book before some classes.
Students/parents will need to purchase (or borrow from the library) a copy of “I Survived The Destruction Of Pompeii, 79AD” by Lauren Tarshis. Each student must have their own copy of the book in order to fully participate in the course.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
