Class Experience

This two day camp will result in two completed tiny tin crafts. Small enough to fit in a purse or pocket to allow portable play whenever you need it.

This class requires two standard Altoid tins. These can be purchased on Amazon without the mints or simply empty out the mints from your local grocery store. I use polymer clay in a variety of colors which will be baked in the oven after class.

A PDF download will be provided prior to starting each class.

I will demonstrate step by step how to create a tiny BBQ on day one including the grill and coals on the top of the tin and a variety of food that will be stored inside.

On day two we will create a tiny garden complete with a range of produce to harvest.

I will use a document camera so that my students can see my hands as well as my face throughout the class.

I provide many ideas for students but always welcome individuality. My hope is that students will continue to create long after the class has finished.

Hello! My name is Katie Chad and I live in Texas. I received my Bachelor in Education with an Art and Design specialism and Qualified Teacher Status from Plymouth University in England. I have taught elementary education in Europe, The Middle East and North America.

My passion is creativity! Can I find a creative way to teach math? Is there a way I can spark excitement with poetry? Can we write a nail biting opening for a story? I love to explore new ideas and new techniques.

I love sculpture, whether I am using clay, fabric, paints, paper or recycled materials. I believe that art is a form of self discovery and exploration that is accessible to everyone whatever their experience.

My aim is to provide my students with techniques and ideas as a starting point for their own artistic discoveries. To provide encouragement and enthusiasm and the knowledge that there is no wrong answer, even happy accidents can result in fantastic creations!

Truth be told, I wish I’d been educated at Hogwarts. I have loved reading the books with my own children. We have thrown several elaborate Harry Potter parties at our house. I have been known to dress up as several of the characters including Professor McGonagall, Trelawney, Dobby and even Hagrid! We’ve made Marauder’s maps, wands, tiny potion jewelry and our own Mandrakes.

I am so excited to meet and create with your students on Outschool.
