Description
Class Experience
In this class, we will work together to learn the steps needed to create each portion of our custom wands. Different camera views will be used to show each step of the way. We will condition, cut, roll and form our pieces. Then we will assemble our parts and get them prepared to be baked after class is over. The supplies are listed below and are necessary to complete the project. I will go over how to lacquer the clay after baking if the students want a professional, glossy finished look....
1 file available upon enrollmentPolymer Clay (any brand you prefer, for reference I use Sculpey Primo) in colors of choice Basic Sculpting tools, toothpick, and anything with an embossed pattern to make imprints in clay if you wish. A Baking sheet covered with parchment paper (don’t bake directly on it) A cutting tool (can be flat spatula, clay knife, anything that you are comfortable with using) A non stick surface to work on (You can cover a piece of cardboard with parchment paper and tape it to the bottom…that works) A small rolling pin or paintbrush handle or anything smooth to roll out pieces of clay. Any GLASS or METAL beads, stones, marbles, crystals, etc. to add to your wand. NO PLASTIC. A Wooden Chopstick or Thin Wooden Dowel to use as our base form. OPTIONAL, but suggested: Soft Pastels (Chalk Pastels) are used to create shading and dimension on un-baked clay. I suggest a Q-tip type cotton swab to apply pastel to clay. OPTIONAL, but suggested: Clear Gloss Waterbased Polyurethane or Sculpey Clay Glaze for after baking (adds a gloss finish)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~260 °F/125 °C, depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary.
