Description

Class Experience

Learners will explore the process of creating a charm using polymer clay. They will use different methods of mixing and blending the clay, shaping and adding texture, and settling on a finished form.
I have been creating polymer clay jewelry and miniatures for over a decade. My approach is to show learners the basics and then let them add their own unique spin to it to create their own design. I find that students have great success through exploring the properties of a medium and then making creative choices in how to apply those properties artistically. I have taught art in a variety of settings to a wide range of ages for nearly 20 years with sculpture as a particular area of focus.
-Polymer clay (tan for the cone, whatever color or colors the learner desires for the ice cream -Chalk pastel -A paintbrush to apply the chalk pastel to the charm -A tool to apply a texture to the cone (The texture around the top part of an Exacto knife works well. Any kind of object with that "waffle" texture that can be pressed onto the clay will work.) -Optional: A head pin if the learner wants to turn their miniature into a charm
-We will discuss what we are learning and observing about working with the polymer clay as we create our miniature cupcakes in the live session.
-Learners will complete the class with a finished miniature to bake.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Learners may need assistance in baking their finished charms
