In this one time class we will focus on how to read and interpret Political Cartoons. Through this lesson, the students will learn an easy way to analyze primary and secondary sources using the acronym SOAPSTone. Your students will quickly grasp the concept and learn to find the meaning behind documents. Each student will be guided through the steps on how to analyze the cartoons and be able to collaborate with each other about the meanings of several different cartoons. All students in the...
Students will examine some modern day political cartoons and use the acronymn SOAPSTone to analyze them.
Students will receive a handout with the SOAPSTONE acronym.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be guided through how to analyses the cartoon and search for the meaning of the author. Cartoons about: kids and technology, sports (Tom Brady Super Bowls), Science (pollution), and culture in the United States. The purpose of the class is to help students understand the meanings of political cartoons. They will be given an opportunity to write/discuss whether whether they believe the cartoons are true or not with in class discussions.
