In this pirate themed class, learners will be given the opportunity to practice basic social skills and manners. They will practice introducing themselves. Learners are encouraged to bring a favorite stuffed animal, doll, or action figure so that they can practice introducing a friend, too. We will make an ocean themed snack together, where they will be given the opportunity to practice "Yes, please." and "No, thank you." While the little pirates enjoy eating their snack, they will be able to practice good listening skills while listening to the story "Are Pirates Polite?" by Corinne Demas & Artemis Roehrig.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Who am I?
I'm Mrs. Brittany, and I am so happy you've found me. I can't wait to meet you! Here on Outschool you'll find me teaching fun science classes, engaging pre-K classes, and all kinds of fun stuff in between!
Ok, but what qualifies me to teach your learner?
I received my BS in Psychology with a focus on child development, and then went back to school and graduated with my MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching). I currently hold 4 teaching certifications - early childhood, middle grades science, biology, and gifted. I have taught high school biology & anatomy, middle school earth & physical sciences, and elementary reading. Since having children, I have spent the last 5 years teaching at their pre-school.
How can you be confident all of that experience will translate online?
I have also taught online ESL classes since 2018. Teaching online prior to joining the Outschool team has given me the skills and experience to teach students in an online classroom.
What is my goal for your learner?
It is my goal to make learning fun and exciting! You can find a few of the following in each of my classes: slide presentations, hands-on activities, crafts, songs, stories, discussions, and more. I strive to provide an engaging classroom environment where learners are encouraged and feel welcome. I want them to collaborate and think critically with their peers. Learners are free to share their thoughts and ideas, without fear of making a mistake. We all make mistakes sometimes, it's just proof that you are trying! I believe even the youngest of learners have something important to bring to the table.
Teaching Outschool, ESL, and pre-school...that's a lot of teaching. Do I do anything else?
Yes, of course! When I'm not teaching I can usually be found spending time with my family. I really enjoy crafting and doing home DIY projects (let me know if you are interested in these topics, I might create a class!). I'm also on a quest to teach myself Korean, however, it is a slow process!
Please reach out if you have questions regarding one of my classes. If you see a class you'd love your learner to take, but it's not scheduled at a time that works for you, let me know and I'll see what I can do! I am able to be fairly available during the summer months.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better! I am so excited to get to know YOU better. See you in the classroom!
