In this one-time class, students will write a sequential paragraph based upon the learner's creative steps involved in catching a Pokemon. Students will use a uniquely designed writing graphic organizer, which, upon folding, coverts into a learner lead and custom-designed Pokeball. Sequential writing is a type of expository used to describe how to do or how to be a certain thing. Sequential writing helps students understand and organize material they’ve learned in a logical manner,...
Objective: Students will sort topic-related events in sequential order, as well as understand and apply transition words. Together we will use the entire writing process (brainstorming, writing, revision, and final writing) to complete our writing activity. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.WHST.6-8.2.c Use appropriate and varied transitions to create cohesion and clarify the relationships among ideas and concepts. Prior knowledge of paragraph writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. Reluctant writers, emerging writings, and experienced writers will benefit from this class.
My educational goal is to enable your student to become engaged in grammar through a common theme - Pokemon. By tapping into your learner's Pokemon enthusiasm, they are active and engaged in their learning process. I have taught over 4,000 Outschool students, and logged more than 800 Outschool teaching hours, in engaging, educational, and inspiring themed English Language courses. I am a certified Tennessee K-6th grade teacher. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English, Communications, and Print Media. You will find more about my Outschool teaching journey on various media outlets, including CBS New York, Business Insider, and the American Board for Teacher Excellence. My personal goal is for your learner to have a positive, educational experience with Outschool. If you have a learner who is outside the range of the class, please contact me in order to make accommodations. If a class section is full, and it is the only time you can take the class, contact me as well - I am always willing to work with an eager learner. I am a believer in a hands-on approach to teaching. Students learn when they are deeply engaged in the learning process. I have found that Outschool students learn best when they are reading, writing, talking about their passions. Students learn so much from each other, and I believe that an Outschool classroom is an excellent example of where unique learning takes place.
Please Note: Learning how to write a sequential paragraph is the focus of this class and will be completed prior to designing, coloring, and cutting of the Pokeball organizer. Therefore, some writing, coloring, and folding might take place outside of our class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This writing prompt class is meant to inspire your student to write. Spelling and grammatical errors are going to be made, and guess what, that is fine! My goal is to enable your student to enter into the writing process without fear and have fun! Paragraphs will not be graded, however, please contact me if your student needs an assigned grade.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
