Description
Class Experience
Pokemon Halloween Writing is a one-time themed writing class for Pokemon fans! Who doesn't want to create a mysterious, haunted, or otherwise unique seasonally inspired Pokemon? In this class, writers will use a PokeDex-inspired brainstorming sheet to generate ideas, layout out a quick character design, and craft a short PokeDex summary statement. Students will then write a 6-8 sentence descriptive/narrative paragraph explaining their Halloween themed Pokemon in great detail. Together we...
Prior knowledge of paragraph writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. Reluctant writers, emerging writings, and experienced writers will benefit from this class. Outschoolers in my themed writing classes write a detailed 6-8 sentence paragraph. We focus on learning the paragraph formula of; topic, supporting and concluding sentences, writing strong descriptive sentences, and finally reviewing our work for corrections. Spelling and grammatical errors are going to be made, and guess what, that is fine! My goal is to enable your student to enter into the writing process with excitement and fun!
My educational goal is to enable your student to become engaged in writing through a common theme - Pokemon. By tapping into your learner's Pokemon enthusiasm, they are active and engaged in their learning process. I have taught over 4,000 Outschool students, and logged more than 800 Outschool teaching hours, in engaging, educational, and inspiring themed English Language courses. I am a certified Tennessee K-8th grade teacher. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English, Communications, and Print Media. You will find more about my Outschool teaching journey on various media outlets, including CBS New York, Business Insider, and the American Board for Teacher Excellence.
All effort will be made to go through the entire writing process, however, if your student is unable to complete the assignment during our class time, please let me know via email. We can make arrangements for your student to send me their final writing through the Outschool portal. Student progress is monitored throughout the class, students who are needing extra writing time are encouraged to finish outside of class time by reviewing our class video.

This class will not feature gore, blood, or other "super scary ideas." All student designs will be kept at the rated 'G' level. If a student diverts from this idea, he/she/they will be gently redirected back to acceptable levels of 'scare.' This class is taught to the pace of the average enrolled learner, and Outschoolers will find this is an academic writing class, we spend time "chatting" Pokemon during our brainstorming session; however, students are expected to stay on topic during the writing portion of our class as we work through the writing organizer. If you feel the writing pace of this class might exceed the abilities of your student, and you know your child's learning abilities the best, please consider this when making your enrollment decision. If your child needs assistance with physical writing, please be available to help. Per the Outschool policy, all non-enrolled students must remain off-camera; however, parents are welcome to sit next to their students during class time. If your writer needs help from you during class, please mute your microphone to avoid excess background noise for other students.
