US Grade Kindergarten - 1
In this one-time class students will take turns playing a Pokemon memory math game while also learning/practicing/reviewing simple addition problems up to 10. While individually taking turns to identify pairs and solve each equation, students will also work together to solve the math problems that accompany each image. Each student will have multiple turns during the game and multiple games may be played as time permits. This class is great for students who love Pokemon and are well on their way to becoming Pokemon Trainers! My class setting is a relaxed, fun, open space for students to be able to discuss and express their thoughts about what we are learning. I encourage student interaction with not only myself but with their fellow classmates. Everyone is expected to be respectful and listen to one another but also feel like they have the ability to share their own thoughts and opinions. I believe learning should be fun and try to provide a space for that to happen.
Learning Goals
Students will learn/practice/review math problems up to 10 while also flexing their memory muscles. They will learn how to encourage each other and how to participate in team based problem solving. They will also be able to share to the group about their favorite characters and/or games enhancing their group speaking skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of California Riverside
Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and three cats! I like online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
