This ongoing group class will help your upper elementary or lower middle school student, who loves Pokemon, to master the process of multiplying two and 3 digit numbers. This class is designed for students who are already familiar with their multiplication tables, and have memorized most facts 1-12. Students will practice mental math strategies to multiply larger numbers, as well as traditional algorithms to do so. Students will get the chance to see some of their favorite Pokemon in word problems and games, and come to class with their favorite gear or Pokemon cards to share for the last 2 minutes of class time. Students will practice multiplying 1 digit numbers by 2 and 3 digit numbers. Eventually decimal multiplication will be introduced. Each learner will have the opportunity to work independently and with the whole group. Learners will be encouraged to share their work, and asks questions about the process throughout the lesson. They can also share their own strategies with the class. Direct instruction, independent practice, and game like activities will be used to keep class interactive. The course will focus on a new skill and difficulty level each week. Week 1 (4/28) - Students will review multiplication tables and practice mental math strategies for multiplying by 11 and 12. Week 2 (5/5) - Multiplying by 10 and 100 (Ex 24 x 10) Week 3 (5/12) - Multiplying by 10 and 100 word problems Week 4 (5/19) - Multiplying by powers of 10 and 100 (Ex 5 x 40) Week 5 (5/26) -Multiplying by powers of 10 and 100 word problems Week 6 (6/2) - 1 digit by 2 digit multiplication
