Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will practice telling me which number is higher or lower than the number on my Pokemon card I announce out and adding and subtracting while using their Pokemon cards. We will be playing a fun Flip your Card game. For the first round, when I show them one of my cards they will have to tell me if my number is bigger or smaller than my number. During the next round, I will start by showing my number in the top right corner of my card and they will have to add the number in the top right of their card with my number. After a round of addition, we will do a round of subtraction.

At the end of the class, students will be able to draw, write and make their own card. They can use the template that is emailed or they can create their own. Learners will have to have knowledge of adding and subtracting single digit numbers and understand size comparisons. I will share a google slide that has the game rules and zoom behavior list (raise their hand, no calling out, etc).

I love teaching and I am excited to have your child in my class. I genuinely enjoy getting students engaged with fun rewards, movement, and creative play. It is seeing the positive outcomes that come out of purposeful, intentional teaching that is so amazing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Welcome to my classroom! My name is Miss Rachel and I live in New York. I am currently teaching full time for Outschool. I have a passion for reading, math, science, art, and Lego play. I have taught acting and Lego building after school classes for pre-k thru second grade. My colleagues call me the ‘Queen of Play’ because of my energetic and creative type of instruction I use visuals during instruction to help my learners understand and follow directions. I genuinely enjoy getting students engaged with fun rewards, movement, and creative play.
I started with Outschool a year ago and I have been teaching for over ten years in many different pre-k classes as a Special Education teacher and a teacher working with neurotypical children. I have worked as a co-teacher in integrated classrooms and self-contained classes for children with autism; Parent trainer; a SEIT teacher and an EI provider. I received a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from NYU, and a master’s degree in Reading at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. These degrees gave me the knowledge to teach reading and writing for children Pre-K through middle school. I am a certified teacher for grades pre-k thru middle school. I am also a parent to two wonderful teenage boys and a dog. When I am not teaching, I love creating teaching products for my TPT store and Etsy shop. My hobbies are crafting, beading, walking my dog and reading.
Lastly, I have taught over 10 classes on Outschool and my favorite ones have been circle time, reading, dinosaur, and LEGO classes. I am an energetic, flexible, and creative teacher who is excited to start the new school year with your child.
