Time management, Turn taking and listening are the main skills that we will learn and build on in this class. Hello and welcome to my profile !
My name is Kathleen and I am an award winning, certified teacher with multiples degrees under my belt: I have my BA degree in Psychology with an emphasis on childhood development. I then went on to receive a dual Master's degree in both Early childhood special education AND General education from a prestigious university in New York City. I've spent over 5 years in the classroom, working with families and teaching a diverse population of students from all ages and abilities.
As a young teacher in my 20s I find that I am better equipped to engage with my young students on their interest and maintain the proper energy level needed, to keep them engaged and learning. Children will relate to me more than they would a veteran, thus, allowing for increased engagement and academic success.
My area of expertise includes a specialized approach to: Autism, ADHD, ODD and Dyslexia. I pride myself on my ability to engage and include every student in a fun way that is based on their unique interest. Students will learn best when they enjoy the subject and when then heard and valued, so that is first and foremost my top priority, to educate each one of my students while also building them up so they can grow into and educated, healthy adult.
My approach to learning has always been a humanistic one. I teach the child in ways that will aid in all areas of their life, including their social and emotional well being and cognitive ability. I build off my students interests and connect those interests to research based learning standards.
