Class Experience

Calling all Pokemon fans! Choose your Pokemon and prepare for the journey ahead in the Sinnoh Region. Together in this camp, we will train our Pokemon by learning terminology, how to multiply/divide fractions, manage improper fractions (mixed numbers), reduce/simplify fractions and practice solving various problem. Are you ready to be the very best and obtain all 8 badges in our journey?

Note: students who are comfortable with multiplication will do best in this course.

Schedule:
Day 1: Intro
What is multiplication and fractions: Terminology
        Why do we Multiply Fractions?
        Multiplying fractions made easy guide
Single Digit Multiplication of Fractions: Example: 1/4 x 5/6 = 
Pokemon Battles with Gym leaders: 2-3 Battles (practice problems using what we learned today)
Extension Activity: This is an optional out of class activity to further practice the concepts we learned in class today.

Day 2:
Review Terminology
Continue mastering multiplication with more advanced concepts
        Double digit multiplication of fractions: Example 12/15 x 11/20 =
Pokemon battles with gym leaders: 2-3 Battles (practice problems using what we learned today)
Extension activity: This is an optional out of class activity to further practice the concepts we learned in class today.

Day 3: 
What is Division: Terminology (reciprocals and improper fractions)
          Dividing fractions made easy guide
Single digit division problems: 3/4 / 2/7 = 
Pokemon battles with gym leaders: 2-3 Battles (practice problems using what we learned today)
Extension Activity: This is an optional out of class activity to further practice the concepts we learned in class today.

Day 4:
Review Terminology
Continue mastering division with advanced problems
        Double digit problems and how to manage them 
Pokemon battles with gym leaders: 2-3 Battles (practice problems using what we learned today)
Extension Activity: This is an optional out of class activity to further practice the concepts we learned in class today.

Day 5:
Camp review of all content in Jeopardy format
Topics include: fraction multiplication problems, division fraction problems and Pokemon Trivia (as a fun reward for all the students' hard work). The review will contain different levels of difficulty, 1-5 for the students to choose from.

Learning Goals

By the end of this camp, students will have experience with multiplying fractions and dividing fractions. Students will also gain experience with terminology and best practices with fractions, such as reducing/simplifying fractions. All of this will occur within the Pokemon world while students battle other Pokemon for gym badges.
