In our poetry workshop, we will study one seasonally themed poem. Learners will understand how to refer to lines and stanzas in the poem in order to discuss meaning and poetic details. Poetic devices and techniques, such as alliteration, rhyming patterns, and descriptive word choices and imagery, will be pointed out. This portion will be approximately the first 25-30 minutes of the workshop session. The second half of this workshop will focus on beginning to write your own seasonally...
Learners will develop an appreciation for a well-known poem and will be able to identify key poetic features as well as explain the meaning and sentiment of the poem. Furthermore, learners will begin to apply some of the discussed poetic devices to their own poems.
Learners will be guided in beginning to write a seasonally-themed poem in this workshop and will be encouraged to share what they have finished within the allotted time. Some learners may finish the workshop with a completed poem under their belts; others will finish a portion of their poems and be encouraged to complete them after the workshop. Learners may opt to submit their completed poems to the teacher for written feedback, if they so desire, after the workshop.
In addition to Outschool technology requirements in order to log in, attend, and participate in this workshop, learners will need to have notebook paper and a pencil.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners may opt to submit their completed poems to the teacher for written feedback, if they so desire, after the workshop. There will be no assigned grades for this workshop.
