The ballad is one type of poetry that tells a narrative or story. A ballad includes setting, character, events and climax. In this 55 minute class students will learn what makes a ballad unique. As an example, we will read Casey at the Bat by Ernest Thayer. Students will participate in a choral reading of a ballad. Students will learn the ABCB and ABAB rhyme schemes, iambic rhythm, and refrain. We will choose a topic and write a group refrain. Students will write a ballad with a partner...
Students will receive a hand out of the ballad, Casey at the Bat and a hand out of the elements of a ballad.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
