POETRY POWERHOUSE (Haiku/Diamante/Cinquain)

What a perfect way to enjoy your summer! Three sessions filled with writing Haiku, Diamante, and Cinquain poems will super-charge your days and give you something to dream about every night!

Day 1 – HAIKU! Let's see how much fun we can have with 17 syllables! Maybe you're already an old-hand at writing Haiku, or maybe it's your first time. Either way, you'll enjoy this session! We're going to learn about the different types of Haiku (traditional and non-traditional). We'll share some written by various authors, as well as my own. We'll see the beauty of nature and laugh with some that are riddles. You'll get to write some using picture prompts and other creative (maybe even silly) methods. We'll share and discuss our writing as we proceed through our session.

Day 2 – DIAMANTES (a type of Concrete/Shaped poems) have seven lines and create the shape of a diamond through the lengths of each of the lines.

Day 3 – CINQUAINS have five lines that don’t rhyme, and are filled with descriptive words.

I'm a poetry nut! I love to read poems, and I love to write them. I get excited about teaching various forms of poetry to young writers, because they are easy for them to understand and execute. Producing these forms often brings on lots of smiles, giggles, and "Ah ha!" moments! That makes me happy!
