I have a BA in Creative Writing from WWU. I have absolutely loved Poetry ever since I was introduced to it in 10th grade. I write poems all the time and in many different forms. While I have no plans to publish my poems at the moment I am not against doing so in the future. I created this class to share my enthusiasm for poetry with learners. I love all forms of poetry, including some of the more complex poems. In a class in college after learning all the basic classical forms we were asked to create our own poetry form for the class. I am not ashamed to say I created a very complex and convoluted poetry form that confused my classmates but that I was extremely proud of because of all the beautiful things I could do with it.
Learners who wish specific feedback will turn in poems to the teacher after each class. Learners who wish a "written report", "progress report", or "letter grade" must turn in work for grading. Learners are encouraged to practice the weekly poetry forms at home to build their poetry portfolio. OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT -Learners may take what they learned over this course and create their own Poetry Form.
Learners will need a notebook and pencils. Teacher will supply weekly handouts for each poetry style including examples. Learners will need a "Final Notebook" for creating their poetry portfolio (Learners may use the same notebook as above but should make sure not to put more than one poem on each page)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
-Learners will be informally assessed through in class participation. -Learners who wish a formal assessment (written report, progress report, or letter grade) will be assessed through in class participation AND turned in assignments. **Written report, progress report, or letter grade Must be Requested -Learners who turn in all assignments will receive a Certificate of Completion
